WELCOME

I am an Associate Teaching Professor of French studies in the French Department at Carleton University in Ottawa. I am also a founding member of the Akademi Kreyòl Ayisyen and an adjunct professor of Haitian Studies at Florida International University in Miami. My research spans three primary fields — literature, educational linguistics, & sociolinguistic —  and takes an interdisciplinary approach. I explore the intersections of language, culture, ideology, identity, and politics in Haiti and other former Caribbean colonies.

I am the author of Literati lakay: Advanced Haitian-Creole Language and Culture through literary texts (2025), Pawòl Lakay: Haitian-Creole Language and Culture for Beginners and Intermediate Learners (2018), and the co-author of La francophonie en action. Utilisateur indépendant B1 (2025). I am also the editor of Ignace Nau’s short stories Le bal masqué et autres nouvelles (2021) and Le lambi et autres nouvelles (2014). I am also finalizing a book manuscript that presents a theoretical model of Haiti’s literary genre called “lodyans”.

My research has appeared in journals and edited volumes published by leading academic presses such as Cambridge University Press, University of Toronto Press, Laval University Press, and University Press of Florida.
